The brain has many parts that controls the body. Prefrontal cortex (thinking brain): -affects our complex learning -thoughtful decision-making -helps us calm down -helps us make good choices -helps us tune into each other
Limbic Area (big emotions and safety radar): Amygdala controls our fight/flight/freeze to prepare for emergency events. It's programmed to keep us safe at all times. Hippocampus regulates motivation, emotion, learning, and memory.
Brainstem (physical responses/protector): -controls breathing and heart rate -reacts to threats to keep us safe
The brain controls our trauma responses to certain situations. The 4 most common/known responses are: Fight- irritability, anger, aggression, moving toward Flight- anxiety and fear, panic, avoiding, chronic worry, perfectionism Freeze- stuckness, collapse, immobilization, dissociation, depression, shame Fawn- people-pleasing, avoiding conflict, prioritizing others, difficulty setting boundaries To regulate these responses, you can do breathing excersises, chew gum, drink water, etc. Some good habits to maintain positivity includes excersise, hydration, mindfullness, etc.
